I started in November after I joined Fulcrum in September. It was great to be able to get the opportunity to start a new apprenticeship programme soon after joining the company and it’s going to give me the skills and experience I need.
As part of my role at Fulcrum I am responsible for network maintenance and device management, which includes looking after devices, like laptops and tablets, as well as managing our servers and networks. My apprenticeship is adding to the knowledge I’m gaining through the practical work I undertake, which is great for me, my career and of course the company.
My aim is to become a fully qualified Network Engineer and progress into areas such as network administration and management of IT teams. My apprenticeship is not only giving me a grounding in the network engineering field but also helping me prepare for a long-term career in this specialism, which is encouraging me to think about the future.
Fulcrum is an open environment where people are encouraged to progress and support each other. There is a positive structure in the business, which helps people collaborate and work closely. The team has been supportive throughout my apprenticeship, giving me the time and resources needed for elements of my training.
Always. If the option of an apprenticeship is there, take it! You learn a lot more on the job and can also see how the theory work can be applied practically to the work you do. I find it a lot easier to learn practically than being behind a book, plus you get the support of colleagues. Here at Fulcrum, I get the time I need to study and get the help with any learning I need.
