Fulcrum Group reaches major primary mains infrastructure milestone at Fairham development
Fulcrum Group has reached a significant new milestone at Fairham, the mixed-use development south of Nottingham, following the completion of critical primary mains utility infrastructure, that forms the multi-utility “backbone” to support the next phases of the landmark scheme.
The latest works build on the successful completion of Fairham’s 132kV primary substation in 2023 and have seen specialist teams from across Fulcrum Group collaborate to deliver the electrical, gas and water infrastructure required to unlock residential and commercial development across the site.
Fairham, a joint venture between Clowes Developments and Homes England, will ultimately deliver 3,000 new homes, one million square feet of commercial space and create up to 2,000 jobs.
Working to an accelerated programme following the evolution of the development’s masterplan, Fulcrum, alongside the Group’s specialist high-voltage businesses Dunamis and Maintech Power, delivered almost 16 kilometres of High-Voltage cable infrastructure over a four-month period.
The works included the installation of 15,950 metres of High-Voltage cable, two major network diversions, the energisation of new electrical circuits and the connection of substations serving both residential and commercial phases of the development. The project also involved the reconfiguration of existing infrastructure to accommodate changes to the development layout while maintaining programme delivery.
Alongside the electrical infrastructure works, Fulcrum Group has continued to deliver gas and water networks across the development, creating the multi-utility backbone that will support future residential neighbourhoods, commercial occupiers and community facilities as Fairham continues to expand.
Drawing on expertise from across the Group, the project combined specialist High-Voltage engineering, multi-utility delivery and project management capabilities to coordinate infrastructure delivery across a fast-moving development.
With the core utility backbone now in place, Fulcrum Group is already supporting further residential phases of the development and remains closely involved as additional parcels are brought forward.
Fairham is one of the most significant mixed-use developments currently being delivered in the Midlands and this latest milestone demonstrates the strength of our integrated approach.
By bringing together the expertise of Dunamis, Maintech Power and Fulcrum, we have been able to provide a joined-up solution that combines high-voltage engineering, multi-utility infrastructure delivery and stakeholder management.
Projects of this scale require far more than technical capability. They require close collaboration between developers, consultants, network operators and delivery teams. Our ability to coordinate those relationships, while maintaining programme momentum and adapting to the evolving needs of the development, has been a key factor in the success of the project.
Importantly, this is not the end of our involvement at Fairham. The infrastructure delivered to date provides the platform for future phases of development, and we look forward to continuing our work across the scheme as new residential and commercial parcels are brought forward.
